5 Tips for a Happy & Healthy Holiday!

CHRISTMAS IS COMING! Which means a lot of Christmas parties... I don’t know about you, but between next weekend... and the following weekend... Trev and I have 4 holiday parties to attend, on top of our family gatherings on Christmas Eve and Christmas, and one things for sure... I don’t want to miss out on any of those holiday desserts/ drinks that are only around this time of year, OR walk away feeling stuffed to the brim/ sick/ gross when all is said and done... SO if you are like me....

Have no fear, because I am here with some tips to help you stay calm & ENJOY yourself, while still making smart choices when it comes to your health!

1.) EAT SLOWLY & ENJOY

  • Take a second, STOP before you eat, look at your food, smell your food and truly TASTE your food. More than likely if you do this vs scarfing or mindlessly eating something, you will feel more satisfied, with less!

2.) EAT THE REAL DEAL TREAT IF YOU WANT IT!

  • There is a pretty good chance if you’re craving a gingerbread cookie baked by grandma with whole wheat flour, and real sugar, and you eat a paleo gingerbread cookie..... you may still crave the gingerbread cookie from grandma. This could lead to you trying to fulfill that craving with more paleo gingerbread cookies or other “healthy” alternatives.... when you could have been satisfied with just ONE of the real deal, so just EAT GRANDMAS COOKIE, guilt free!!😉

3.) MAKE NOTHING OFF LIMITS

  • If you tell yourself “I can’t eat that pie, or those cookies” you may very well REALLY want to eat that pie or those cookies.... and if you do after putting on that restriction it may come with guilt and that may result in a TUMMY ACHE. Simply because of our powerful mind! Negative thoughts / anxieties around food can lead to poor digestion. When we restrict ourselves from certain foods, our bodies are actually likely to crave and want them more. If we don’t put anything off limits, and instead tell ourselves it’s OK to enjoy all things we want in moderation, we will have a healthier mindset when it comes to holiday eating and a happy tummy!

4.) MAKE CHRISTMAS ABOUT ENJOYING TIME WITH THE PEOPLE YOU LOVE

  • Instead of being super focused on the FOOD, focus on being with your loved ones, catching up, making memories, and just enjoying all the magic of Christmas! ❤️

5.) MOVE YOUR BODY

  • the weather may be getting colder, but make an effort to get outside and at least go for a walk with family if getting to the gym or doing an actual workout is too hard. Things get busy, but it’s never TOO busy to do some self care in the form of physical activity. Doing this will ensure you’re taking that time for you, feeling energized and happy, and when you exercise you may be more likely to fuel your body properly!

SO, take these tips and ENJOY yourself this holiday season!! Because it’s only here ONCE a year!
